Lake Bled

You can get to Lake Bled by train, but it is a longer journey & more expensive.  It is a 5 minute walk to the bus station & 10 minutes after buying my ticket I was on the 8:00 am bus to Bled.  The weather was perfect, sunny & in the 60s.  There is a nice & mostly shaded 3 mile cinder path around the lake.

I noticed there were a lot of athletes and coaches when I got there, apparently the world rowing championships were taking place the next day so everyone was out practicing.  I took a lot of pictures of the lake & the island in the lake.

About 2/3 of the way around the lake, there was an area where you can get on a pletna boat to go to the island.  It is a boat that holds 20 people & a guy in the back who steers/rows the boat.  Some people on the boat seemed clueless and didn't understand that the boat needs to be balanced so it does not tip over.  One guy tried get up in the middle of the trip & move to other side for a photo.  When boarding the boat, a couple tried sit down to have 5 people on one side & 2 people on the other side.

This Latin guy in the hat was a character, I nicknamed him Rico Sauve.  He said at first he was professional dancer, then an aeronautics engineer for Boeing.  Both myself & the English couple sitting next to me were trying not to bust out laughing.  I was waiting for him to claim he worked for the CIA.  The island was nice & has a small church on it, but not much else.  After getting back on land, I wanted to try one of the famous Bled cream cakes.  It was very good.

My last stop was the castle overlooking the lake, unfortunately a big bus of Asian tourists showed up as I got to the ticket window.  A bunch them had on winter jackets in May!!  The first scenic overlook had them lined up to take selfies overlooking the lake, once they moved on I was able to get some nice photos.  In the museum there was a giant painting of two men, one who looked to be a pope or cardinal.  So this Japanese woman stands in front of half the painting obscuring the religious guy to get her photo taken.

I had to head back to the bus station to catch the 2:00 pm bus since the next bus wasn't until 4:30 pm.  I took a break when I got home & then headed out for a run.  I was breathing heavy due to my cold, but managed to get in 5.5 miles.  There is a huge park (Tivoli) about mile from the apt with lots of runners & cyclists.  There were cinder paths for runners & paved paths for cyclists.  I ended eating dinner at the apartment.

Tomorrow I am doing a day trip to the Skocjan caves.

Here are few more photos from the lake.
